Friendship. Let’s just say that I’m not totally convinced in the general awesomeness of the whole concept of keeping people so close, that you at some point risk the inevitable notion of disappointment. People think this line of thought is nuts, and the only broadly accepted attitude is to collect as many friends as your lifetime will hold. Also, in the inner shell of your circle of trust, it is widely believed that a small and tough core of so called best buddies is for the benefit of any human life. At dinner parties, people next to me swap seats as I randomly build innocent arguments for the fact that we cannot rule out the possibility of life forms without friends existing somewhere out there. And that these life forms could actually survive and live healthy, happy lives. Lately, my theories have been under fierce attack from a hugging fire storm called social media, with facebook and twitter in leading roles. Friendship isn’t just a human concept anymore, it’s gone digital. The more the merrier seems to be the only path ahead. God bless those accounts with dropping friends stats. But. And it’s a big but. Internet and the highly questionable opinion of the general public aside, my own conclusion in the matter is that, sure, friends are great. As long as they are as cool, wise, witty and un-suffocating as Patrik. Today I keep a number of friends like this. The power proved too overwhelming to stand up to. And, you may like to know, having friends is a daily joy. It puts life into perspective, and also, you won’t have to drink alone. I highly recommend it.
